According to the type of current of the quantity to be measured; electrical measuring instruments are also be
classified into;
• AC Meter
• DC Meter
• AC & DC Meter
Electrical measuring instruments are also be classified into three;

1 Indicating Instrument
2 Recordings Instrument
3 Integrating Instrument
Indicating intrument
It indicate the magnitude of an electrical quantity at the time when it is being measured. The indications are given
by a pointer moving over a graduated dial.
Example: voltmeter, ammeter etc

Recording instrument
The instruments which keep a continuous record of the variations of the magnitude of an electrical quantity to be
observed over a defined period of time.
Example: ECG, Temperature recorder

Integrating instrument : The instruments which measure the total amount of either quantity of electricity or
electrical energy supplied over a period of time.

Example: energy meters
