EXERCISE 17 : Configuring Firewalls

Objectives

At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• setup the windows firewall
• crack firewall settings on the PC.

Requirements

Tools/Materials
• Windows PC/Laptop with internet connectivity

Procedure

TASK 1: Set Up the Windows Firewall
1 Open the Control Panel.

2 Click the System and Security heading.
3 Click the Windows Firewall heading.

4 The Windows Firewall window appears.

5 To change the setting, click the Turn Windows Firewall “On” or “Off” link on the left side of the Windows Firewall
window.

TASK 2: Checking Firewall Settings on a PC
1 Open your Start menu.
2 Type “firewall” into the search bar.

3 Click the “Windows Firewall” option on the top of the search window.
4 “Private networks” and “Guest or public networks” with green shields to the left of them, signifying that the
firewall is active.
