Style lines
1 Style Lines
Style lines fall into two classifications
• Those that cross over the bust and those that do not.
Style lines that are crossing over the bust, replacing dart legs with style seams that absorb dart excess within
stitch lines to control the fit of the garment are called Princess Line. These type style lines are dart equivalents.
Style lines not crossing bust point are not dart equivalents and called Panel style lines.
2 Classic Pricess style Line
Design Analysis
The classic princess is distinguished by a style line that starts at the front and back waist darts, continues over
bust points and shoulder blades, and ends at mid-shoulder dart of the back (position of dart point can vary to
improve style line).
Style lines (dart equivalents) replace darts. The design can be based on the one- or two-dart pattern. (The two-
dart pattern is illustrated)
Pattern Plot and Manipulation
