EXERCISE 73 : Measure speed, torque, slip, current,
power,PF

Objectives

At the end of this exercise you shall be able to:
• carry out the direct loading test on motor with brake arrangement
• calculate the Torque developed by motor from the readings of the spring balance
• calculate the power factor of the motor .

• D.E. spanner set 20mm -1 Set. • DOL starter 5 HP/440V -1 No.
• Electrician knife 75mm -1 No. • ICTP 32A/440V -1 No.
• Test lamp 60W -1 No.
• Voltmeter 0 – 500V MI -1 No.
• Ammeter 0 – 25A MI -1 No.
• Wattmeter 500V,5/10A, UPF -2 Nos.
• Power factor meter 500V,5/10A, -1 No.

Procedure

TASK 1: Carry out the direct loading test on motor with brake arrangement

1 Note the name-plate details of the squirrel cage induction motor
2 Select the voltmeter, ammeter and wattmeter range suiTable to the specification given in name-plate details.
3 Make connection as per circuit diagram. (Fig 1)
