EXERCISE 13.2: Tuning up the engine

Objectives

At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• check battery capacity
• test for compression
• check & replace air filter, oil filter & Engine oil
• check the injector function and replace injector.
Requirements

Tools/Equipments Materials
• digital multimeter space - 1 No. • Tray - as reqd.
• continuity meter - 1 No. • Cotton cloth - as reqd.
• ohm meter - 1 No. • Kerosene - as reqd.
• DE spanner 6 to 32 - 1 set. • Diesel - as reqd.
• compression tester - 1 No. • SoapOil - as reqd.
• executive auto electrical toolkit - 1 set. • EngineOil 20 W 40 - as reqd.
• Battery tester - 1 No. • Coolant - as reqd.
Equipments • Air filter - 1 No.
• Oil Filter - 1 No.
• Running condition of Diesel HMV - 1No. • Injector - 4 Nos.

Procedure

Battery check up

Battery capacity test
Adjust resistance until ammeter reads 3 times ampere-hour
rating of battery,hold for 15 seconds and note voltage

Voltage over 96 Voltage less than 9.6

Check specific gravity charge battery,if Check specific gravity of each cell
below 1.2.30 Otherwise battery is o.k.

less than 50 points (0.050) between cells More than 50 points (0.050) between cells

Add water if necessary and charge battery per Repalce battery
charging schedule and repeat capacity test

Total voltage less than 9.6 Total voltage more than 9.6

relplace battery Battery is servicable
