Module 9 : Garment Checking
EXERCISE 45 : Check the garment in respect of measurement
Objectives
At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• check the measurement of a garment.
Procedure
TASK 1: Steps to measure T-shirt
Place the garment on the table and check (Fig 1)

1 Neck to shoulder: Measure from the middle of the neck to the tip of the shoulder.
2 Sleeve length: Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve opening.
3 Shoulder: Measure from the point where the yoke meets the sleeve, to the same point on the other side. It’s
the length from one shoulder to another.
4 Chest: Measure from the bottom of the armpit of the T-shirt, to the bottom of the other armpit.
5 Waist: Measure the waistline from one side to another.
6 Hem: Measure from one side to another.
7 Shirt length: Measure from the highest point of the shoulder to the very bottom of the T-shirt.
8 Sleeve cuff: Measure the length of the sleeve cuff.
TASK 2: Steps to Measure Jeans
Tips For taking measurements (Fig 1)
1 Ensure that all the measurements are made with the jeans placed on a smooth surface, like a table or floor,
and all wrinkles smoothened out.
2 Do not hold the tape measure too tightly or loose while measuring. It should wrap around your body well.
3 Make sure that all the measurements are as accurate as possible.
4 It is important to match your measurements with their size chart.
