1.4. Direction of Dart Excess (Fig 2):
Follow the arrows for direction of the dart excess when folded. The excess is placed on the back side of the
pattern and on the wrong side of the garment.

Excess folds downward for darts located anywhere along the
• Armhole
• Side seam
• Center lines
Excess folds toward the center front/back for darts located anywhere along the

• Shoulder
• Neckline
• Waistline

1.5. Completing the Dart
The dart can be finished one of two ways:
1 Trim dart excess to within 1/2 inch of the Seam line before stitching the dart (Fig 3).
2 Fold the dart excess under and stitch on the Seam line (Fig 5).
