Uses:
In side seams of shirts, trouser, children wear etc. Piped & French seam are used for decorative purposes.
Superimposed Seam (SS)

SSa Side seam of skirt, dress slacks,
inseam or side seam of jeans
SSb Finishing belt ends; attaching
elastic to waistband.
SSc Ends of waistbands on jeans
SSd Seaming, but not widely used
Sse Collar or cuffs seamed and
topstiched.
Class 2 - Lapped seam
The seam of class-2 is called lapped seam. In this class of seam, two or more piles of material are lapped (i.e.,
with edges overlaid, plain or folded) and joined with one or more rows of stitches. The two Sewn edges remain in
two opposite sides of the sewing line/seam line.
Uses:
Lapped seams are common when sewing side seams on jeans and dress shirts. This class of seaming has the
largest number of variations.
