Lesson 46-50 (3) : Introduction of Digitizer (Digitize pattern)
Objectives
At the end of this lesson you shall be able to
• acquired knowledge about the Digitizer and their uses in Garment Industry
• understand the whole digitizing process
• understand the importance of digital pattern.
Any apparel manufacturers, designers, merchandising organizations and others in the apparel sector have
physical patterns made of cardboard, paper, fabric or other materials.
Such physical patterns suffer from a number of limitations.
They can get worn out, torn, cannot easily be shared, cannot easily be changed to create new patterns and often
take up a lot of space.
Digital patterns do not have these limitations.
A Digitizer provides the fastest and easiest way to convert physical patterns to digital patterns.
A Digitizer comprises of the following:
1. A Digitizing Magnetic Board
2. A Digitizing Software
3. Camera
A Digitizing Magnetic Board can be fixed on a wall. Physical patterns that need to be converted into digital
patterns are then placed on the Digitizing Magnetic Board. The physical patterns are held on to their places using
magnets provided (When using traditional digitizing boards, physical patterns are pasted to the digitizing board
using cello tape)
Once the physical patterns are held on to their places on the Digitizing Magnetic Board, a camera is used to click
the image of the physical patterns.
This image gets transferred from the camera to Digitizing Software on a computer. Digitizing Software automatically
creates digital patterns that are similar to the physical patterns.
Digitizer (also called Digitizing System’) uses the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to make this process of
conversion from physical patterns to digital patterns fast, easy and hassle free.
Benefits of using Digitizer:
• Automatically convert physical patterns to digital patterns.
• Edit the newly created digital patterns as required.
• Create new patterns using digital patterns as a reference.
• Save space and time.
