DRESS MAKING - CITS
3 If the fabric has right and wrong side difference, then the layout should be made on the right side of the fabric.
4 While placing the patterns on a fabric, the grain line marked on the pattern should be kept parallel to the
selvedge of the fabric by measuring from each end of the grain line to the selvedge.
5 All the patterns should be laid closely to achieve economical layout.
6 It is better to place the large patterns at one end of the fabric or both the ends.
7 Small pattern pieces should be placed between larger ones.
8 The wider end of the large patterns may be placed at the cut end of the material.
9 Also, the wider end of one pattern may be placed near the narrow end of another pattern.
10 It is better to use duplicate patterns for pieces, which have to be used twice.
5 Care and precaution while making Marker for different fabrics.
We have to take extra care while preparing marker for different fabrics like, Striped, Plaid (Checks), one way and
floral prints.
5.1 Striped Fabrics:
While handling the striped fabrics, consideration must be given to where the stripes will look best on the finished
garment. Select a prominent stripe and make it to align along straight seam. The front patterns should be laid in
opposite direction and we can get the same stripe line alignment on both fronts equally. Also, we can lay the other
parts like back, yoke, sleeves, Collars and cuffs in way that the prominent line run along the center portion of the
above. If Possible, the pocket should be laid next to the Front to get perfect pocket matching. In these types of
fabrics, there is no need of considering the direction of the patterns (top or bottom direction of the patterns).
