6 Qualities of a good Marker
The following are the important qualities of a good marker.
1 The marker should have the proper fabric width and it should be fixed by considering the fabric width variation.
2 All the parts and components of all sizes should be properly drawn in the marker.
3 The marked lines should be clear and without any corrections.
4 The direction of the marker to be placed on the fabric lay should clearly indicated.
5 Each part should have all the pattern details like grain line, name of the style, size, nos. of parts to be cut,
name of the part etc.
6 The duplicate copy of the paper marker should have clear impressions by using proper carbon sheet.
7 The marker should have more efficiency without wasting the materials.
8 The notches, pleat marks, drill marks of the patterns should be clearly transferred.
9 There should be no fabric defect like bowing in the case of fabric marker.
7 Marker efficiency:
It may be defined as the ratio of the total area of all the pattern pieces in the marker to the total area of the marker
plan. It is expressed in percentage (%).

The higher the marker efficiency, the lower will be the fabric wastage i.e. least fabric will be required to make a
definite number of garments. So increase in marker efficiency is very important.

1 Using paper, prepare Markers manually for Plain, Striped, Plaid and One-Way fabrics.
2 Collect different types of woven design fabric swatches, analysis the design and give tips for preparing Markers
for the same.
