EXERCISE 18.7: Service of Centrifugal Pump

Objectives

At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• dismantle a centrifugal pump
• clean a centrifugal pump
• assemble a centrifugal pump
• starting a centrifugal pump.
Requirements

Tools/Equipments Materials
• Trainees Tool kit • Gate valve
• 10” - 36” pipe wrenches • Globe valve
• 75 mm - 250 mm chain wrenches • Check valve
• Packing material
Procedure

TASK 1: Dismantling of a centrifugal pump
1 Before dismantling drain the Bearing Bracket of oil.
2 Unscrew filling and drain plug.

3 Drain the oil into bucket.
4 Remove the nuts which hold the bearing bracket to pump casing.
5 Pull the bearing bracket to remove the complete bearing bracket with rotor, impeller, bearings and shaft.

6 Remove the O Ring.
7 Remove the Impeller nut, washer and lock washer.

8 Pull the impeller off the rotor.
9 Pull the rotor off the shaft.
10 Pull rotor housing off the recess pump casing.
