            Foundation bolts

Machines are generally subjected to vibration. Due to this the machines are likely to shift or move from their po-
sitions. To overcome this the machines are fixed to the ground with the help of devices called foundation bolts.
These bolts do not have a specific shape of head like Hexagonal or square bolts. The length of the shank is ac-
cording to the thickness of nut and the thickness of machine base. This odd shaped part holds the machine firmly
           to the ground.

As per IS:5624-1970, there are six types designated as Type A, B, C, D, E & F. Fig.1 shows the same. They are
available in 13 dia sizes from M8 to M72, lengths 80mm to 3200 mm. These are designated by the shank dia and
length, without nut. The ends are formed by forging.

There are other non standard forms which are generally used are:
           – Eye foundation bolt
           – Rag foundation bolt
           – Lewis foundation bolt and
           – Cotter foundation bolt
