Practice on 605 – Three needle cover seam with top cover machine
This stitch type is formed with five threads. Three needles, one looper and one cover thread. Stitch type 605 has
high seam elasticity and has an higher than average thread usage
1 Machine Setup:
- Ensure you have a coverstitch machine with three needles and a top cover thread capability.
- Thread the machine with the appropriate threads: three needles with matching colors and a top cover
thread.
- Set the stitch length and tension according to your fabric type and desired seam appearance.
2 Fabric Preparation:
- Place the fabric layers you want to join under the presser foot.
- Align the raw edges of the fabric layers.
3 Stitch Formation:
- Lower the presser foot.
- Start sewing by activating the machine.
- The three needles will create parallel lines of stitching on the upper side of the fabric.
- Simultaneously, the looper will interloop the threads on the underside of the fabric.
- The top cover thread will add an additional decorative layer on the upper surface of the seam.
4 Stitch Characteristics:
- The 605 stitch combines the functionality of a coverstitch (with three needles) and adds a top cover thread
for decoration and protection.
- It’s commonly used for hems, seams, and decorative stitching on knit fabrics.
- The top cover element enhances the appearance of the seam.
5 Finishing:
- Trim any excess threads.
- Press the seam if necessary to flatten it.
Remember to adjust the machine settings based on your specific fabric and project requirements
