2.1.1. FABRIC INSPECTION: Fabric is the main, plays an important role in garment industry. The Quality of
fabric affects the entire finish product. Fabric inspection is usually done on fabric inspection machine to detect the
fabric defects. Fabric inspection will remove the burden of quality responsibility from those performing spreading.
A spreader will be able to concentrate on spreading more quickly without having any problem. Cutter productivity
would increase because the defects are already marked.
Fabric inspection machines are design so that rolls of the fabric can be rounded behind inspection table under
default light. Defects in the fabric can be seen readily with the machine. The inspection machines are power
driven. Inspector pull the fabric over the inspection table such machines are also equipped to accurately measure
the length of its roll as well as monitor the width of the fabric. The defects are located, marked and recorded on
           an inspection form.
There is no standard viewing condition for inspecting the fabric. No industry standard or acceptable limits for
storage in number of yards on a roll of fabric. There is direct co-relation between fabric quality and apparel quality.
Poor quality fabric results in excess cause of apparel or garment manufacturing.
Generally, to test the quality parameters of woven, knitted and non-woven fabric, the fabric must be conditioning
at 24 hours in the standard testing atmosphere. It is very important for all types of fabric.
           Quality Parameters of Woven Fabrics:
There are some quality parameters of woven fabric

              • Dimensional characteristics: (Length / Width /Thickness)
              • Weight of fabric: (Weight per unit area / Weight per unit length)
              • Fabric strength and extensibility: (Tensile strength /Tearing strength)
              • Threads per inch of fabric: (Ends per inch / Picks per inch)
              • Yarn count: (Warp count / Weft count)
              • Handle: (Stiffness / Drape)

              • Water resistance
              • Shrinkages
              • Different fastness properties:
                 (Fastness to light /wash /perspiration / Rubbing)

           Quality Parameters of Knitted Fabrics:
There are some quality parameters of knitted fabric
              • Strength and extensibility
              • Course density
              • Wale density

              • Elasticity
              • Deformation
              • Grams per square meter (G.S.M)
              • Yarn count
              • Design

           Quality Parameters of Nonwoven Fabrics:
There are some quality parameters of non-woven fabric
              • Strength and extensibility of fabric
              • Weight
              • Thickness

              • Air permeability
