• Understand about variety of tools and their creative use.
Garment construction requires a different tools that can be classified into the following categories.
Measuring Tools Measuring tools are essential accessories needed to precisely measure fabric,
patterns, and even bodies.
Drafting Tools Drafting means the process of producing a technical drawing or draft. So, the
tools used to make those drafts are the drafting tools.
Marking Tools Marking tools are handy for drawing non-permanent lines onto fabric.

Sewing Tools Sewing tools are tools and equipment, both small and large, that are used in
machine and hand sewing. The correct tools will make your sewing faster and
more professional.
Using the right tool will help to make the garment construction easier. These tools help increase the accuracy of
the finished product, saves time and also simplify tasks.
Measuring Tools
1 Measuring tape
It is a common measuring tool consists of a ribbon of cloth, plastic or fiberglass with linear measurement markings.
There are two sides of tape measurements – metric and imperial.
Metric measurement markings represent measurements in centimeters and millimeters. The small lines in
between the centimeters lines are the millimeters. Ten millimeters make up one centimeter, and 100 centimeters
equals one meter.
Imperial measurement markings represent measurements in inches.
These markings allows you to measure a wide range of items, from small details like button placements to larger
body measurements or fabric lengths.
When selecting a flexible tape measure material, choose fiberglass or another synthetic material that won’t stretch
over time.
2 Yard Stick / Meter Stick
A yard stick, made from wood, metal, or plastic, is one yard, or 36” in length. If you use the metric system, you
may prefer a meter stick, which is 100 cm, or one meter, long.
Because it doesn’t bend, a yard stick or meter stick can be used for measuring straight, longer distances and for
checking grain lines.
