           3   Pencils and pens
              •  Pencil used for pattern work.
              •  Red and blue colored pencils used to identify pattern changes.
              •  Black, green, red, and blue felt-tip pens used for pattern information.

           4   Rulers
           There are different types of rulers.
              •  The transparent ruler: It is a large rectangular ruler and also called straight ruler
                 that is see-through and would have grid lines all throughout. The length can vary,
                 but 12 inches (30cm) or 18 inches (45cm) is a good length for dressmaking and
                 pattern measuring.














                                   •  Tailor’s L Square: It resembles exactly as the name entails .Technically  the L
                                      square with two arms forming a 90° angle that measures,  rules, and squares
                                      simultaneously. The tailor’s L square measures 12 or 14 inches by 24 inches (35cm
                                      x 60cm).It is very useful in pattern measuring and scaling down ½” ¼” ⅛” 1/10” and
                                      1/32” scaled measures. (12mm, 6mm, 3mm, 2mm, 1mm).

              •  Set Square: A set square is a right triangle .it is an essential tool for marking and
                 finding fabric bias, altering and grading patterns.


           5   Curve rulers
           There are different types of curved rulers with different functions.
              •  French Curve: It is a very useful curved template used for shaping armhole and neckline.

              •  Sleigh curve:  It is used to shapes necklines, armholes and other curves like pockets, collars and cuffs.
              •  Hip curve / leg Curve: This is a device used for shaping hipline, hem, side seam & lapels.















           6   Sewing Seam Gauge
              •  A sewing gauge or seam gauge is a small, useful tool with a sliding
                 guide  to mark out and  measure small  distances.  It can measure
                 hemlines, tucks, and pleats as well as the spaces required for buttons
                 and buttonholes.
